In its path, on the island of New Britain, lies a tiny Catholic mission station, Vunapope. Here a handful of Australian nurses take refuge with wounded Australian soldiers. Sisters of War is inspired by the true story of two extraordinary Australian women,  Lorna Whyte, (now Lorna Johnston) an army nurse and Sister Berenice Twohill, a Catholic nun from country New South Wales who was stationed at Vunapope. Although they were two very different women,  their friendship would survive the perilous events that followed.Sisters of War is adapted from wartime diaries and interviews with Lorna, Sister Berenice and others who witnessed these events.
